  2. INSTRUCTIONS:

  4.              1)   If you are getting these files from a bulletin board
  5.                   service:
  6.                            a) format a disk,
  7.                            b) label it LAN_DRV_020 using the DOS label function
  8.                            c) copy all the files onto this disk (LAN_DRV_020).
  9.  
  10.              2)   Regenerate a new OS with NETGEN, choosing the option,
  11.                   "Load and Select Item" from the "LAN Driver Options"
  12.                   menu.  When prompted, insert this disk (LAN_DRV_020).
  13.  
  14.              3)   Copy ARCONFIG.EXE and ARCONFIG.HLP from this disk 
  15.                   (LAN_DRV_020) to the BRUTILS disk.
  16.  
  17.              4)   Follow the instructions below to configure your system.

  20.                      CONFIGURING THE FILE SERVER SOFTWARE

  23. PREPARING TO RUN ARCONFIG FROM A LOCAL DRIVE
  24.  
  25. To run the ARCONFIG utility on a standalone computer (not connected as a
  26. network workstation), you will need the OSEXE-1 and OSEXE-2 diskettes that
  27. contains your NET$OS.EX1 and NET$OS.EX2 operating system files.  You will also
  28. need the BRUTILS diskette containing the ARCONFIG utility files.
  29.  
  30. Because the NET$OS.EX1 file is very large, you will not be able to copy the
  31. necessary ARCONFIG utility files onto the OSEXE-1 diskette.  Instead, you will
  32. have to run the ARCONFIG utility using the separate diskettes.

  35. PREPARING TO RUN ARCONFIG FROM A NETWORK DRIVE
  36.  
  37. To run the ARCONFIG utility from a network drive (on a network that is
  38. running), you must copy the ARCONFIG.EXE and ARCONFIG.HLP files from the
  39. BRUTILS diskette to a directory on the network.
  40.  
  41. For example, if you plan to run ARCONFIG from network drive F, insert the
  42. BRUTILS diskette into drive A and type
  43.  
  44.   COPY A:ARCONFIG.* F:  <Enter>
  45.  
  46. The asterisk serves as a "wildcard" character to copy both the ARCONFIG.EXE
  47. and ARCONFIG.HLP files.  (It is not necessary to copy any other "support" files
  48. from the BRUTILS diskette since these files should be in the SYS:PUBLIC network
  49. search directory.)

  52. STARTING ARCONFIG (FILE SERVER SOFTWARE)
  53.  
  54. To start the ARCONFIG utility so you can configure your file server software,
  55. complete the following steps.
  56.  
  57. 1)     Insert the program and file diskette(s) as follows:
  58.  
  59.   o    If you are running ARCONFIG in standalone mode, insert the BRUTILS
  60.        diskette into drive A.  If your computer has a second disk 
  61.        drive (drive B), insert the OSEXE-1 diskette.  (If your computer has
  62.        only one disk drive, you must swap diskettes as prompted.)

  64.   o    If you are running ARCONFIG from a network drive, insert the OSEXE-1
  65.        diskette into drive A.
  66.  
  67. 2)     Switch to the drive that contains the ARCONFIG utility files.  In
  68.        standalone mode, this is drive A.  For a network drive, specify the
  69.        appropriate drive letter.
  70.  
  71. 3)     Type the command to start the ARCONFIG utility, which depends on the
  72.        format of your OSEXE-1 diskette.

  74.   o    If you are using a 5.25-inch OSEXE-1 diskette, type
  75.  
  76.             ARCONFIG OSEXE-1:NET$OS.EX1 BRUTILS S  <Enter>
  77.  
  78.        In the command, the "OSEXE-1:NET$OS.EX1" parameter specifies that you
  79.        will be configuring the NET$OS.EX1 file on the OSEXE-1 volume
  80.        (diskette).  The BRUTILS parameter specifies that the help files will be
  81.        located on the BRUTILS volume (diskette).  The "S" option allows
  82.        ARCONFIG to configure the "split" operating system.

  84.   o    If you are using a 3.5-inch OSEXE-1 diskette, type

  86.             ARCONFIG OSEXE-1:NET$OS.EX1 BRUTILS  <Enter>
